Kitchen Pot Light Installation Cost Vancouver 2025
Pot Light Installation in Vancouver Kitchens
Recessed pot lights (also called pot lights or can lights) are the most popular kitchen lighting upgrade in Metro Vancouver. They eliminate dated fluorescent tubes and dramatically improve kitchen ambience and functionality.
Installation Cost
| Scope | Cost Range |
|---|---|
| Basic installation (per light, existing circuit) | $150–$250 |
| New circuit required (per circuit) | +$400–$700 |
| Typical kitchen (8–12 lights) | $1,500–$3,500 |
| Whole home pot lights (15–25 lights) | $3,000–$7,000 |
LED vs Halogen
LED is now the standard in all new pot light installations. Benefits: 75% less energy than halogen, lasts 25,000+ hours vs 2,000 for halogen, produces less heat (important in insulated ceilings).
Choosing the Right Spacing
Rule of thumb: space pot lights half the ceiling height apart. For 8-foot ceilings: 4-foot spacing. Most kitchen installations use 4″ or 6″ housings. 4″ for accent lighting, 6″ for general illumination.
Permit Requirement
New pot light circuits require an electrical permit in all Metro Vancouver cities. Replacing existing fixture with a pot light in the same box location typically doesn’t require a permit.
